UK Prime Minister visits MBDA Bolton

Our state-of-the-art manufacturing hub has drawn quite a few visitors since the building was completed however; yesterday’s visit from Prime Minister Theresa May was a stand-out one for our Bolton teams!

Theresa May visits Bolton_L.jpgArriving on her big blue bus, she took time out from her campaign trail – and indeed running the country - to find out about how our new site not only secures jobs in the North-West, but secures defence capability for the UK’s armed forces against current and future threats.

With an investment of more than £40million in the new manufacturing facility at the Logistics North development, the site is our commitment to ensuring delivery for the Ministry of Defence and has been part of the modernisation of our manufacturing processes for the future.

Mrs May was welcomed by our UK Managing Director, Dave Armstrong and took a look around to find out about the various activities going on, including sub-assembly, test and evaluation. As the media gathered, our apprentices were in the spotlight and we were proud to have them as key MBDA representatives to the Prime Minister. They were delighted to meet her and explain their career paths, as well as share what it’s like to be part of MBDA. Business apprentice, Helen said: “It was a fantastic opportunity to be able to talk about the benefits of apprenticeships and working within the defence industry with our Prime Minister this afternoon.Theresa May Bolton visit with apprentices_L.jpg

"It is always really positive for the company to have VIP visits like this as it highlights the amazing work we do here at MBDA. Not only that, but it draws attention to the success of our apprenticeship Scheme and the opportunities we are able to offer to young people who are looking to work within the manufacturing industry."

It was a big day not just for our apprentices, but all our Bolton teams and those at our other UK sites in Stevenage and Bristol - the Prime Minister’s visit really underlines our position as an industrial leader, reflecting all the hard work of our incredible UK teams to establish MBDA as a leading player within the engineering and defence sectors.
