To enable and to encourage employees to enhance their technical and professional skills and knowledge, MBDA offers a wide and varied range of development opportunities. These include:
- Internal and external training courses:
Employees are encouraged to discuss their development needs with their managers and to make use of the wide range of training courses available. Many of our training programmes are run in-house, in our dedicated learning facilities, making use of both internal and external experts to ensure that we provide high quality learning opportunities.
- Further education
Continuous professional development is really important to our business, to ensure that we have employees who have the latest research and knowledge available to them. Therefore we have supported many of our employees to study for further academic or professional qualifications, from NVQs to PhDs. We also offer support to our employees to achieve chartered (or other accredited) status in their chosen professions.
- Language training
As a truly international business, competence in a second language has become increasingly important for many of our employees. As a result we have developed on-site language resource centres at our Stevenage and Filton sites, with their own dedicated tutors. Visiting tutors provide language coaching for employees at our Lostock and London sites. We offer a range of flexible language learning options, ranging from group conversation classes to individual coaching, and we make use of the latest online learning tools – for access whenever and wherever they may be required.
- Online learning
Flexibility of learning approaches, and availability of learning at a time that suits each individual, is core to MBDA’s approach to development. All our employees have access to our electronic library of business books and to over 3000 e-learning programmes. Our e-learning facilities are available at work, through our dedicated Knowledge Point facilities – one on each site. Or, they can be accessed by employees and their families through the internet from home PCs and personal tablet and mobile devices.
Our Books 24x7 facility offers over 10,000 books on topics from leadership and management to office and commercial skills, and e-courses include IT skills, personal development, office skills and project management. Employees can create their own bespoke reading lists and learning plans and can access all at their convenience.
- Programme of Self Assisted Study (PASS)
Interested in developing a skill in a subject that isn’t necessarily work-related? MBDA is happy to provide all permanent employees with up to £100 of financial support each year, which you can put towards training course or exam fees.
You can put the money towards programmes which are skill or knowledge-based, undertaken in your own time, and taught at a recognised learning centre such as university or local college.
Some of our employees choose to pool their money with others for approved group learning, such as language lessons in French or Italian.
