Now in his final year of study for a Masters
in Mechanical Engineering at Queen's University Belfast, Mark decided that
a summer placement was an excellent way of gaining valuable work experience
as well as applying what he had been taught at university to a real job.
"Not everyone wants to take a full year out, so working for 12 weeks is a useful option. MBDA runs a very organised scheme and I felt my time there was really worthwhile."
"My placement was in Mechanical Technologies and Design in Stevenage, designing work for mechanical systems. The transition from university to work can be difficult but MBDA made it as easy as possible; I wasn't just thrown in at the deep end. Right from the start I was assigned a Mentor who gave me advice and helped me settle in, and set me on the road to becoming a chartered engineer. Because I was on a short placement I didn't get a chance to move around, but I did interact with other departments and received a lot of help from my line manager and colleagues."
"I was also assigned a buddy who was very helpful in solving everyday problems and answering questions about MBDA. Also he introduced me to other people on similar schemes to myself who were very welcoming and friendly. This made the move away from home a lot easier, and I am still keeping in touch with them now.”
