Commercial Summer Placement, June 2022

The Commercial team work across the MBDA’s product range and help to maintain and improve the business aspects of MBDA. We negotiate all the Contracts within the UK and handle all the formal Customer liaison contributing to the overall business objectives. Our team works together to ensure that we work in the most effective way, there is also a huge depth and breadth of legal and commercial knowledge available to support you within your role.

During your placement, you will experience some of the following:

  • Being a key player in the winning of new work and maintaining the viability of MBDA.
  • Being a part of the delivery chain that ensures MBDA meets all its promises to customers.
  • Be a key point of contact, for business related matters, for the area you are working in.
  • Working with people at different levels, giving you exposure to senior level management, within the MBDA business.
  • Experience handling, maintaining and understanding data, both financial and contractual
  • Every day is different you will be involved with a wide variety of different activities and tasks.

We will provide on the job training to develop your skills in;

  • Understanding how a contract is agreed, maintained and closed.
  • Understanding how MBDA price and quote for new work.
  • Building and maintaining relationships.
  • How to represent others at a variety of meetings (internal and external to MBDA).
  • Analysing and solving issues.
  • How to influence business decisions.
  • Utilising software packages such as ‘Excel’ and ‘Word’
  • Time management.

This will be achieved through support and mentorship from a team that has many years of experience! And you will gain a broad and comprehensive understanding of MBDA products.

Our Summer Placements last for 10 or 12 weeks, starting either the 6th or 20th June 2022.

Entry criteria
  • Currently studying towards a minimum of 2.2 degree in subjects such as Business Management, Law, Economics or a Degree with Business Modules.
  • A confident, articulate communicator, both written and verbal.
  • Comfortable building working relationships.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Analytical in approach.

00 Application Process

1. Submit an application

Our application form contains a few factual questions, some questions relating to the role you have applied for and a section for you to tell us all about you! 

2. Online assessment

Some of our Graduate, Summer placement and 10 month placement roles will require you to take a Diagrammatical, verbal and numerical reasoning test. Apprentice applicants will take a Strengths based assessment.  

3. Internal review

Hiring Managers assess your application and assessment results and shortlist for our assessment centres. 

4. Assessment centre

Our Strength based assessment centre is a virtual experience! You’ll get to work on a range of tasks, meet current programme members and people from the department you have applied for. All candidates receive feedback on their performance.  

5. Offer

We’ll call you shortly after your assessment day to talk through your feedback and the finer details of your offer, as well as next steps.

Training and Development

You’ll be able to choose between a variety of online learning platforms such as Percipio, YouLearn, Career Builder and Video Gateway. Each one is tailored to a specific type of learning. Speak to your line manager to find out more. 

We encourage new learning and will provide up to £150 in financial support per year if you wish to participate in further study in your own time. You’ll have access to our Learning Gateway, which hosts the formal course catalogue and is where you can select the right training for your role and future development. The catalogue displays which courses are being delivered virtually or are classroom based. If you want to lead a team, you might be interested in our management training, designed for people of all experience levels. 

Dynamic Working

The way we work is changing and your schedule will reflect that. For non-executive employees, we have a flexi-time scheme that allows you to choose, within certain parameters, when you start and finish each day and how you can use time you have accrued. If you have worked the time, you are also able to accrue and take up to 15 days of Flexi-leave per annum, in addition to the 25 days of annual leave provided and bank holidays.

Security Clearance

All graduates at MBDA are required to hold UK Security or BPSS Clearance. To gain this clearance you are required to hold a UK passport and to have resided in the UK for the previous 5 years. If your application to MBDA is successful, we'll need to check your eligibility, which means seeing your birth certificate and/or passport. Security vetting will also be undertaken.

All employees/Apprentices at MBDA are required to hold UK Security or BPSS Clearance. To gain this clearance you are required to meet the government standard for eligibility. If your application to MBDA is successful, we'll need to check your eligibility, which means seeing your birth certificate and/or passport and educational certificates. Security vetting and medical clearance will also be undertaken.
