What’s the opportunity?
We arerecruiting an undergraduate student to work within one of the largest and most experienced Human Factors Departments in the UK. The Human Factors team will provide you an opportunity to learn about Human Factors within the UK Defence Industry, offering you a highly supportive and structured environment to develop your skills and provide you with the opportunity to put your knowledge into practice.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about understanding real-life, practical issues that military users face working in the modern battlespace, often in very challenging environments.
The placement is an opportunity for you to develop an appreciation for how people use complex equipment and systems from a cognitive and physiological perspective. This will involve conducting research tasks and identifying new technologies that will shape the way military personnel use their equipment in the future. There is the potential opportunity to get “hands on” with kit and work with military users. On the job training, along with significant guidance and support will be provided by experienced colleagues ensuring you are suitably supported throughout your placement.
What will you be doing?
Examples of day-to-day activities include:
Designing and prototyping Human Computer Interfaces (HCI) / Human Machine Interfaces (HMI).
Supporting the development and demonstrations of Virtual Reality technologies.
Supporting the planning and conduct of User Experimentation and trials.
Carrying out individual research tasks, to provide recommendations and solve problems.
Conducting workspace assessments and anthropometric modelling tasks.
Writing reports and creating presentations on areas you’ve been working on.

Who and what we are looking for from you?
We are looking for someone who is passionate about understanding real-life, practical issues that military users face working in the modern battlespace, often in very challenging environments. To be considered for the role, you must:
Be studying a current undergraduate course in Psychology, User Centred Design, Ergonomics/Human Factors, Product Design or a related engineering course (e.g. Systems).
Be able to adapt well to changing and challenging goals and requirements.
Have great interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team or individually.
Be able to use your integrity and intuition to work out the most suitable course of action.
