On this 4 year programme you will be studying part-time for a fully funded Digital and Technology Solutions degree at Weston College.
What will you be doing?
You will joining one of the following departments (you can specify a preference on the application form):
-Network Communications department
-Algorithms and Performance department
-Mission Planning and Control department
As an apprentice within the Network Communications department, you will be responsible for the requirement definition, design evolution, qualification and project management of communication systems and sub systems. As part of this team, you will conduct the following activities:
- Developing datalink systems to communicate between platforms and missiles
- Working with communication and networking technologies and techniques
- Designing Network Enabled Weapons
- Developing networks that support weapon systems in the battlespace
- Helping with future developments in technology and systems
As an apprentice within the Algorithms and Performance department, you will contribute towards the architecting of weapon systems and weapon system sub-systems for new and existing programmes, delivering solutions for mission planning and target modelling systems, and be responsible for the design and implementation of complex weapon systems algorithms including:
- Determining dynamic launch zones for air-launched weapons
- Fly out models for all missile types
- Auto-routers for long range strike weapons
As as apprentice within the Mission Planning and Control department you will be developing Communication, Command & Control components for complex weapon systems. Delivering these products requires innovation, technology development, understanding of networks, integration and Cyber security as well as jointSystems and Software approach. You will work on:
- Requirement definition, design evolution, qualification and project management of major componentsdefinition,
- provide systems engineering to each of the stages fo the product development life-cycle ranging from understanding the required system behaviours from a variety of viewpoints
- System design and specification, through to integration, test - and analysis of - system performance.
As part of your Degree Apprenticeship, you will also have the opportunity to experience work placement in other areas to develop your skills and overall appreciation of Weapon System Design.
As well as challenging placementsyou willhave the opportunity to undertake developmental training:
An induction event that allows you the opportunity to interact with fellow new-starters, and integrate into the business
2 x 1 week-long residential courses in Wales to develop skills, such as team working, business communication, presentation and project management skills.
2 day career development workshop at the end of the scheme to assist you moving from an apprentice into the business.
For network engineers, training in specific tools and technologies is provided.
The Degree Apprenticeship consists of a combination of on-the-job technical training and time studying a Digital and Technology Solutions Degree. You’ll be provided with formal advice and guidance throughout the scheme by HR, learning & development, managers across the business and a trained mentor.

What are we looking for from you?
Candidates must have achieved 120 UCAS points through either:
BTEC extended Diploma (DDM) in computing or IT
3 A-Levels, one being an IT based subject and two others within any subject.
GCSE Maths and English at Grade C / Level 4 or above.
The ability to abstract away from the finer details and see the bigger picture.
Be a good communicator, able to work with a wide range of people (including our Customers).

£14,500 starting salary with an annual increase of up to £4000 dependent on your performance in placements and university.
