Formula Student 2017

As proud sponsors of this year’s Formula Student competition, we were happy to have one of MBDA’s talented engineers on the board of judges. The event was for university teams from across the world to design and manufacture a single-seat racing car for competition across a variety of both static and dynamic categories. This challenge provides a great platform for organisations like MBDA, to help inspire the next generation in STEM subjects as well as provide first-hand insight into working for the UK’s Top Engineering employer.

Mike Osgerby, Design Engineer in our Mechanical function at MBDA tells us about his second year of judging the competition:

“I took part in Formula Student whilst at University, so I can understand the hard work that goes in to the design and build of a car within 9 months. The skills I developed, not just in technical expertise, like raising sponsorship from industry, working under pressure and to tight deadlines and working as part of a multidisciplinary team really prepared me well for my career beyond university.”

“Having volunteered as a business case judge last year, this year allowed me to see the improvements that the teams have been working on over the past year. I’ve been really impressed with the quality of both the car designs and the detail of the business proposals. Each year the students never fail to impress with the vast amount and complexity of work they deliver.”
