Story
Meet Amelia - Learning something new every day
Complex projects. Amazing machinery. Supportive colleagues. It’s no surprise that graduate engineer Amelia has never stopped learning with MBDA.
What do you and your team do?
In Integration and System Validation, we test real hardware in real time. We focus on targeting – testing what our missiles can see. Some of the machinery we use in our tests is massive. As a grad engineer, it’s great to be working with machinery on that scale. My work right now involves a lot of coding and testing. I write plugins.
We do a vast range of work in our team. Our trials engineers go out to many different countries, so there’s a lot of opportunity to travel. I’ve been to France a few times, and other people in the team have gone to places like Spain, Germany and South Korea.
What do you find the most satisfying about your work?
It comes back to testing. I love testing. I get to work with my hands and see the results instantly. You make a change, and you can see an immediate impact in the data you collect.
Has anything surprised you about working at MBDA?
Yeah. This was my first real job, and engineering tends to be a male-dominated industry, so I wasn’t sure how easy it would be to settle in. But I was immediately welcomed and encouraged - even when joining quite a small team where everyone knew each other, I’ve never felt like I didn’t belong here.
What’s the best thing about working here?
This is a very easy answer: it’s being able to learn as much as I can. MBDA really appreciates and invests in the development of its people. Since leaving uni, I’ve kept on learning so much, every single day in whatever role I’ve been in.
