Meet Katie - Helping colleagues achieve the highest standards

Since joining MBDA, QA Engineer Katie has discovered a purpose she believes in and the flexibility she needs.

What part do you play at MBDA?

I work for the quality assurance team, supporting the Hardware In The Loop function. It’s my role to help the teams there do the best job they can, first time and to the highest standards. This obviously then feeds into other levels of the company. The best part is the range of work and projects I get to be involved in: I’m part of almost everything the Hardware In The Loop guys are working on.

What made you join MBDA in the first place?

When I saw the job ad, the mention of flexible working, hybrid working and dynamic leave immediately appealed to me. I’ve got a little one at home, so a good work-life balance is very important. It wasn’t something I was getting in my previous workplace, but here you’re in control of your own time and workload. It’s a respectful culture.

You joined us from med-tech. Tell us about that.

When you work in quality engineering, you can do the same role in a lot of different sectors. Moving from medical devices to defence wasn’t too much of a shift – I still get to use the same skills as before.

What keeps you here?

I find the purpose really powerful. When you work in defence, you’re doing something that is important for the country and your loved ones.
