Opening Doors, Changing Futures: Inspiring Tomorrow’s Female Engineers

What if one day could spark a lifetime of ambition?

In celebration of International Women in Engineering Day, over 150 students stepped into the world of MBDA—and left with something powerful: possibility.

Real Stories, Real Experiences

Across our UK sites, students took part in dynamic STEM activities designed to show - not just tell - what engineering is all about. From practical challenges to behind-the-scenes insights, they got to experience life as an engineer in action.

Alongside the students we had over 50 MBDA professionals to listen, encourage, and share their own real, unfiltered stories about how they got into engineering. Many of those journeys started the same way - full of questions, unsure of the path ahead, but with a curious mindset and eagerness to learn.

Engineering a More Inclusive Future

Now in its second year, these events are more than just inspiring days out. They form part of our wider commitments to Equality, Diversity & Inclusion and Social Value. By creating opportunities like this, we’re:

  • Opening doors to careers students may not have considered roles in engineering
  • Challenging outdated assumptions about gender and engineering
  • Supporting our communities with meaningful, long-term impact by building connections with local schools

The Bigger Picture: Making It Count

This initiative is just one way we’re building long-term relationships with local schools, supporting the UK’s talent pipeline, and shaping a workforce that truly reflects the world we serve. We are grateful to our organisation partners who help us with our ongoing STEM outreach at MBDA; including STEMPoint, our on-site STEM charity.

We are particularly proud of the MBDA employees who brought energy, empathy, and expertise to every conversation—and equally proud of the students who showed up ready to explore what’s possible.

Because when curiosity is sparked, confidence grows. And that’s when real change begins.

Want to do work that matters?
