Data Protection Officer (DPO)

When I first came to MBDA I worked in HR, specifically in the Employee Relations Team as an Employment Law Specialist.  MBDA encourages employees to look for growth opportunities and a couple of years ago, I was promoted to a DPO role, and I now work within the Cyber and Information Security Department.

A DPO is a subject matter expert on GDPR and data protection. The DPO assists MBDA to monitor ongoing compliance, provides advice on Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), and acts as a contact point for both the supervisory authority and the data subjects. The DPO champions GDPR compliance within MBDA and at the same time, the right of data subjects.

MBDA is a wonderful company to work for and it has many diversity networks. There are some within the company who were taken on as apprentices and will be within the company until retirement as there are lots of opportunities to move around and progress within MBDA.

MBDA support learning and development and will help fund qualifications that would help you to add more to the business. However, there are also many courses and soft skills learning opportunities, such as ‘how to present’, ‘how to have courageous conversations’ and a multitude of other courses from Excel to how to protect data.
